My New Toy: Lacie LaCinema Classic HD 1080 HDTV Media Player

I have a large movie collection (4 terabytes and growing) on my HTPC (home theater PC) which I use to play movies in my dedicated home theater. Sometimes I'm too lazy to walk downstairs to the home theater in the basement and start up my HTPC to play a movie.  It also takes too long to start the computer and wait for the family to gather at the theater. I wanted a simple gadget that I can use to quickly turn on and start watching movies.

Last week, I found the ideal solution...the Lacie LaCinema Classic HD (model 301864KUA). Don't let the picture below fool you. This gadget is tiny and measures only 4.6" wide x 7.6" long x 1.8" tall and weighs 33.5 oz. I guess good things do come in small packages.

The unit plays full 1080p (via HDMI 1.3 port)  video source and many video formats such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2 / HD, MPEG-4, DIVX, DIVX HD, XVID, H.264 HD, WMV9 HD. It is capable of processing Dolby 5.1, Dolby True HD, DTS, DTS-HD using the passthrough optical audio port. The LaCinema HD can be hooked up to any ethernet network for file transfers or movie and music streaming.

I will be hooking up the LaCinema HD to my 55" Sony TV (KDL-55EX500) in my sun room. Now I can play some of my movie collection using the media player's one terabyte hard drive. The LaCinema can also play music and photo slides. Sweet!

My home theater pictures. I think I need a spanking for being too lazy and not wanting to walk downstairs to the theater to watch a movie.  I need a star trek transporter beam me to my home theater.

On second thought, I should drag my ass to this theater.

What Global Warming?

Global warming my ass! Looks like the Al Gore's global warming fear mongering is running out of fuel. For the first time in many years, there will be snow in all 50 states. Washington DC is buried in deep shit of snow. I hope it is buried permanently in snow so the corrupt politicians will be frozen to their congressional chairs and their tongues stuck to the big American flag pole for all the lies they have been telling us. The global warming politicians are full of shit and they know it. They are full steam ahead on trying to shove the Cap & Trade global warming nonsense down our throats.

Global warming fear mongers including the New York Times have are now blaming this year's record snowstorms on global warming. But the same fools blame the lack of snow in years past on global warming! Make up your mind. You can't have it both ways.

Say it with style...

Snow in Atlanta! Time to raid the grocery stores.

I love occasional snow but I hate the unnecessary panic it creates for the people of metro Atlanta. It's hilarious to watch the TV reporters trying to find the "deepest" snow (6" max) to create backdrops for  their silly reporting. The ideal backdrop scene would be accidents like cars in ditches or cars kissing each other or with trees. It's also hilarious to watch people swamping the grocery store fighting for the last loaf of bread on the store shelf. What bugs me the most is being stuck behind people who drive 10 MPH on the highway at the slightest snow flurries when the outdoor temperature is above freezing. Yesterday, I changed my flight back to Atlanta to 11am to avoid the bad weather. I was scheduled to arrive back in Atlanta at 9:50PM. As soon as I got off Atlanta airport, it started snowing quite a bit. However, it was 35F outside. I was stuck in horrible traffic at around 1:45PM all the way from the airport to Roswell, GA. I arrived home at around 3:50PM. A normal trip would have taken me no more than 40 minutes. People, if you cannot handle a bit of snow please use public transportation or don't drive.
